Islamorada — Florida Keys History and Discovery Foundation is excited to announce an expanded annual membership program to better reflect the growing benefits of membership. The Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, is creating a world-class history & discovery center that accurately reflects the history of our Florida Keys community in a multi-faceted and interactive environment. With the completion of the state-of-the-art, 35-seat theater, the addition of a monthly lecture series, as well as the installation of four new permanent exhibits, featuring artifacts and stories of First People/Indians, Pirates and Wreckers, and the 1733 Shipwreck, membership has even greater benefits.
Benefits for all members include unlimited admission for one year, a retail discount (percentage varies with membership level), recognition in annual publication and on the website, invitations to openings, and a quarterly newsletter. Basic membership categories include Individual, Dual and Family, ranging from $65-$150, and allow members to attend four monthly lectures free with additional lectures at half-price. Sustaining levels offer greater retail discounts, increased recognition, and opportunities to use museum and/or theater space. The additional seven levels, ranging from $250 to $10,000, can be enjoyed by multiple individuals within a family, business or organization.

Flagler’s Folly Society, a new annual membership program, is geared toward young professionals in the community, age 21 to 45ish, offering full member benefits as well as four quarterly socials called Hungry for History. The Society membership, at $250, is part social, part philanthropic and aims to engage the next generation of leaders in the preservation and sharing of Upper Keys history.
An exciting new benefit for all members provides reduced admission to three museums in Key West through a partnership with Key West Arts & Historical Society. Discovery Center members get $2 off of admission at their three museums – Key West Custom House, Key West Lighthouse & Keeper’s Quarters and Fort East Martello.
“The original membership program, introduced in June 2014, was created prior to the development of monthly lecture series as well as before the completion of the state-of-the-art theater,” said Executive Director Jill Miranda Baker. “We are excited to be able to expand offerings to our community and visitors alike, and encourage annual membership so as not to miss any of the unique programming coming in 2016, including a permanent exhibit featuring a replica of Indian Key circa 1835 and a traveling exhibit from famed black and white photographer Clyde Butcher.”
Depending on the level of membership, members can take advantage of free and/or half-price admission to the monthly lecture series, Keys History & Discovery Center Presents…. Members also will benefit by saving on admission fees for special film nights and the newly launched program, Midweek Matinees, offered on the first Wednesday of each month, 2-4:30 p.m.
The revised program goes into effect for new members beginning Oct. 1, 2015, and takes effect for current members at time of renewal.
