Volunteer Opportunities

The Keys History & Discovery Center is staffed primarily through the efforts of volunteers who serve as docents and greeters to guests. Our volunteers enjoy sharing our history and interacting with guests who frequently have their own stories to tell about time spent in the Keys.

We are seeking volunteers who have a special interest in the Upper Keys community and its unique history and ecology. Shifts are available Tuesdays–Sundays from 10 a.m.–1:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.–5 p.m. To learn more about volunteering, submit the Volunteer Interest Form or contact the Discovery Center at 305-922-2237 or volunteer@keysdiscovery.com.

Discovery Center Named Unsung Hero

Judy Layne has been involved since 2015. As a volunteer docent, she greeted guests, informed visitors about the exhibits, and assisted staff with special projects. Since joining the board, Judy has taken on a variety of roles in the organization, most notably dedicating many hours as committee chair for the successful “Night at the Museum” fundraiser. Judy Layne is the owner of Image Works Marketing & Communications Corp., which she founded in 2002. She is also a Managing Partner of Mad Dog Mandich Classic, LLC. Judy’s companies specialize in marketing, advertising, and event planning, with a focus on supporting non-profit and civic organizations. Everything she does, she does with such love and compassion and we are so thankful to have her as part of the organization!
