Please let us know if you have included FKHDC in your will by filling out this Letter of Intent and emailing, mailing, or delivering a copy to Bonnie Barnes, Executive Director, Florida Keys History & Discovery Foundation, Inc., 82100 Overseas Highway, Islamorada, FL 33036; 305-952-2237). All wills and other types of planned gifts are recognized in our Legacy Society unless you designated otherwise.

Why Include FKHDF in your will?

When you include FKHDF in your will, it enables you to:

1) direct the distribution of your assets;
2) provide for your heirs in the way you choose rather than as state and federal laws dictate;
3) possibly reduce or eliminate certain estate taxes and court costs; and
4) designate a portion of your assets as a gift to your favorite charity.

Many gifts cost you nothing now, there is no minimum contribution, and there are no binding contracts; you may change your mind anytime by editing your will or contacting your account administrator.

It is easy to remember FKHDF either through a new will, or through a “codicil” – an amendment to your existing will. FKHDF also accepts cash and securities.

Below are a few options to consider:

Cash Bequest – FKHDF receives a specified dollar amount.

Specific Bequest or Devise of Property – FKHDF receives specified assets, such as securities.

Residuary Bequest or Devise – FKHDF receives all or a percentage of the remainder of your estate after specific legacies, debts, taxes, and estate expenses have been paid.

Contingent Bequest or Devise – FKHDF receives a gift according to the language of the bequest. There are a wide variety of conditions that you could place on such a bequest. For example, if you outlive other named beneficiaries, then part or all of your estate would benefit FKHDF.

Tax Benefits

Your bequest to FKHDF may qualify your estate for a charitable deduction equal to the entire amount of the bequest. Consult your tax or financial adviser for further information.

An unrestricted will or bequest allows your support to be used in the area of greatest need.

Sample Restricted Bequest Language

______% of my residuary estate to support _____________________ (e.g, education, programming, exhibits or scholarships for graduate students working at FKHDF).
